History of the Present-day tribes
The many tribes that once existed include: the Chowaoke, Croatan, Hatteas, Moratoc, Secotan, Weapemoc, Machapunga, Pamlico, Coree, Neusiok, Tuscaror, Meherrin, Cherokee, Cape Fear, Catawba, Shakori, Sissipahaw, Sugeree, Waccamaw, Waxhaw, Woccon, Cheraw, Eno, Keyauwee, Occaneechi, Saponi, Wateree, Yeopim, Paquatank, Perquiman, Poteskeet, and Tutelo. Now there are just eight:
